Powers and duties
According to the Constitution, the functions of the Prime Minister are:
- Submit a vote of confidence of the government cabinet to the National Assembly.
- Form or dissolve the government cabinet, as well as appointing or dismissing ministers.
- Coordinates the work of the Ministers.
- Collaborate with the President of the Republic in government affairs.
In the event of the resignation, death or removal from office of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister shall act as his successor on a provisional basis. He is considered the second in line of succession.
Removal
The Prime Minister may be removed by a motion of censure, previously approved by an absolute majority of the members of the National Assembly. Upon his removal from office, the members of the National Assembly will enter into permanent session to elect a new Prime Minister within thirty days. This also applies in the event that the Prime Minister resigns or dies while in office.
In the event that the National Assembly fails to elect a new Prime Minister after the deadline has passed, the President of the Republic will have the right to appoint the new Prime Minister.
