Eric Perez

The New European chancellory election of October 2011 is the first election for the office of the Imperial Chancellor, it began on October 1 and will end with its vote on 25 October 2011. Alexander Huber, who was eligible for a second term as Chancellor, announced that he would no longer be able to fulfill the duties of the office. The party nominated Jessica Brigan to be the Nationalist Party's candidate in the election. Eric Perez announced his candidacy for the Socialist Party. The Centrist Party did not put forth its nomination for the election. Public opinion of the Nationalist Party suffered due the summer inactivity and the increasing popularity of Eric Perez. Although majority of the military supported the Nationalist candidate, civilian support for the Socialist candidate out weighed it and was the deciding factor of the election. Although Perez is individually considered more popular with the people he still only had 55% of the total votes. An international poll was set up on the MicroWiki Forum. At the conclusion of the election on October 26, Perez had a stunning 75% popularity vote from community leaders who voted against Jessica Brigan's 25%. On 26 October 2011 the polls were closed and votes counted resulting in a victory for Eric Perez.

October 2011 is the first chancellory election taking place in New European history. In the past Assembly Elections the Chancellor was apointed by the Emperor from the majority party in the Reichstag. Incumbent Chancellor Alexander Huber was eligible to run for a second term during this election, but was injured in a car accident in July and announced he could not run for office. When the election began it was decided that Jessica Brigan would run for the Nationalists. While the Socialist Party candidate is its Chairman Eric Perez. Centrist Party leader Jorge Contreras has stated he is not interested in running for Chancellor but would accept apointment to any position in the cabinet.

Campaign and Candidates

The campaign began on October 1, 2011 with a formal presentation of the policies and government proposals being presented before the Reichstag and a pledge made by both candidates to compete for the office fairly without using smear tactics. The followed by a debate between the two cadidates on October 15 in which they stated their intentions if elected. Most military and conservative officials favored the Nationalist candidate while popular vote appears to be with the Socialist candidate.

Nationalist campaign

Nationalist candidate Jessica Brigan, recently made Countess of Aiken, pushed for an end of incumbent Chancellor Huber's reforms. She has won the support of the Imperial Army command staff by promising to increase military expansion and reinstate conscription to reactivate more New European units. As well as to re-enter microworld politics through the Grand Unified Micronational of which New Europe was exercised most of its influence at its appex. The candidate is also intending to implement a national budget to strengthen the New European economy.

Socialist campaign

The socialist candidate Eric Perez has stated that if elected Chancellor he would be fair and impartial to all sides of New European politics. He has said he will not focus on expanding the military and that New Europe must proof itself to the community that it is no longer a militarist state by putting resources into domestic reforms that must be placed before the Reichstag, and that he will work with the currently conservative legislature. Perez has also stated that New Europe would return to the world stage and politics, but not before it's reforms into a full micronational democracy are completed.

The voter turnout for this election was predicted to be small as genuine elections in New Europe had never occured or had a high enough turn out. The final tally of total votes counted for the election was 11, equalling a 100% voter turnout. Many of New Europe's ruling elite and military leaders supported the Nationalist candidate however she lacked a strong enough civilian base. The Socialist candidate achieved nearly the identical opposite polls. Perez received a high popularity count from the civilians, particularly in New Europe's non-white populace. Many citizens outside the County of Aiken stated that they didn't know the Countess as well as Mr. Perez. An international poll was set up on the MicroWiki Forum to gage the international opinion of the candidates. The polls went until three days after New European polls were closed however, Out of the 15 community leaders who voted 40% voted for the Countess of Aiken while the remaining 60% where in favor of Mr. Perez.
