Lenny Face Day (stylized as ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Day) is a national holiday in several micronations celebrating the first known appearance of Lenny Face. Appearing on a Finnish image board on November 18, 2012,[1] Lenny Face has become an important part of micronational meme culture, becoming a common appearance in several micronational Skype rooms.
The first known use of the Lenny face in the micronational community was by Alejandro Wyatt, then First Minister of Mercia, during a parliamentary session some time in 2016. Alejandro is also notable for introducing the phrase 'Hahu' into micronational discourse.
A gag began through mid-2017 as several micronationalists began "Lennying" other people and micronationalists. This meant implanting a Lenny Face on a photo of the person in question. The earliest known example of these was a John Lennon edit known as "John Lenny" created by Newton von Uberquie and shared with Henry Clément via Skype private message.
A more controversial Lenny was made next, and then the gag became slightly less common before a mass "Lennyization" in early July 2017 through the Abeldane Lounge Skype room, including a Lenny of Patrick I of Paravia. At this time, Esse, Abelden, and Uberquiesenberg declared November 18 a national holiday. Mouzilo, a state of Ashukovo, later independently followed suit.[2]
