Tørstenbjærg, officially the Kingdom of Tørstenbjærg, is an entity which claims to be a sovereign state but is more commonly referred to as a micronation by recognized nation state entities. Located on the Thurston Island, Tørstenbjærg declared independence from the in July 2013. The Kingdom of Tørstenbjærg is a "Fifth World" micronation according to the Boodlesmythe-Tallini System.

Government & politics

Tørstenbjærg is a constitutional monarchy with an active monarch, in which the he and the Parliament play a central role. It is a unitary state, in which the power of the local governments is limited and most is handled by the central government. The executive power and the legislative power consists of the Parliament, a bicameral legislative made up of the House of Nobles (upper house) and the House of Representatives (lower house). The judicial power is held by the High Inquisition, the supreme court of Tørstenbjærg made up of 1 nobleman and 2 commoners directly appointed by the monarch. Anti-monarchist parties are banned in Tørstenbjærg.

Executive and Legislative power

As Tørstenbjærg is a constitutional monarchy, there is a seperation of powers. The government of Tørstenbjærg comprises the executive and the legislative powers. The executive power is vested into the monarch of Tørstenbjærg, who exercises it through his cabinet. The legislative power is vested into the bicameral Parliament, the supreme legislative power of Tørstenbjærg. Its chambers are the House of Nobles (as upper house) which is the monarch' main advisory body, and the House of Representatives (as lower house).

Monarch

As Tørstenbjærg is a constitutional monarchy, the head of state is the Monarch of Tørstenbjærg, which is styled as King. The monarch has a large executive and legislative power in theory, but in practice most of the monarch's prerogatives are exercised at the will of the Statsminister.

Diplomacy

Foreign Relations and Diplomacy are handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is led by the Minister of Foreign Afairs, Trade and Tourism. Tørstenbjærg has generally a closed diplomatic policy, as well as it has a neutral opinion towards other nations' internal affairs.
