The name "Sorrenia" is an adaptation of "Sorrento", the name of a small town in southern Italy, near Naples.

Sorrenia began life as the Democratic People's Republic of Kozlova, the project of several friends from a school in Durham. Kozlova was initially successful, with up to 10 citizens, however the socialist government ultimately became stagnant, and those opposed to the communist imagery rose up, forming a rebel nation called Yavoko.

After several days of civil war, the key citizens of Kozlova reached an agreement; they declared the nation defunct, and set about creating a more inclusive micronation.

Sorrenian Federation

Out of the Kozlovan negotiations, Sorrenia emerged. A constitution containing 64 articles was created and three parties contested the first elections, although the remains of the Kozlovan government were narrowly successful and took power.

Sorrenia reached further heights, with a population of 40 at its peak. The Federation was initially known for continued deep partisan divisions, between the left, the centre-left, and the right.

Sorrenia also expanded its territorial claims, to include the area surrounding the City of Durham, as well as several other territorial claims (most notably the Kingdom of Amon Lasgalen and Gran Pais.

The Federation saw immense success and lasted for several years; however, once the leading members sought to further their education, activity in Sorrenia decreased, eventually leading to a state of crisis.

Administrative Divisons

The Kingdom recognised three forms of administration - states, devolved states, and territories

States are those regions central to the Kingdom of Sorrenia; largely centered around the city of Durham and several other towns and villages, the states each elect representatives to the King's Council.

Devolved States are those regions that are acknowledged to possess a strong national identity, and as such, are granted devolved powers relating to national imagery, monetary and fiscal affairs and several other concerns.

Territories are those regions historically held by the Sorrenian Federation that lack a sizeable-enough population to actively be represented. As territories, local citizens are not represented on the King's Council.

Political Parties

Sorrenia is noteworthy for hosting two significant political traditions. Some of the leading parties trace their lineage to pre-war parties, and so embrace compromise, discussion, and coalition government. Such parties include the Old Monarchists, the NDLP, and the Libertarian Party.

Other parties are completely new, or have distanced themselves from their old organisation. These parties are distinctly more authoritarian, were borne out of the Succession War, and have fought amongst one another, and so are adverse to negotiation. Such parties include the New Monarchists, the Republicans, and the Dradelian Revolutionary Front.

Some political parties also maintain relations with an armed wing, to varying degrees. the Dradelian Revolutionary Front is the best example of this relation, with its armed wing bearing the same name, and political leaders openly calling for armed struggle. The Republicans are also rumoured to maintain funding and support for the Socialist League. The Old Monarchist cause is also supported by the Young Vikings, although the party rejects any relationship with its armed counterpart.

Foreign Relations

Sorrenia recognizes, and has relations with many Micronations. It also recognizes every member in the U.N. as well as the Vatican City. Since the transition to authoritarianism, diplomacy in Sorrenia has suffered.

Recognized, No relations

The country of Sorrenia is very diverse with a census recently completed by the President. Most citizens are young adults between the ages of fifteen and thirty. Half of Sorrenians are Christian, with a large minority of Atheists, followed by Muslims and various other religions.
