The State of Sorrenia is a protectorate state of Eresamia.

Sorrenia was previously dominated by a socialist government, before the republic was overthrown in a coup in June of 2016. Following an attempt at further elections in October 2016, Eren Scott was elected as President. Due to internal instability, the President announced the taking of emergency powers. After a failed Coup attempt, Scott declared absolute rule, transitioning Sorrenia from a democratic state to an authoritarian dictatorship with a 'ceremonial monarchy'. In the summer of 2017, the leader decided to place Sorrenia under the protection of the Student's State of Eresamia, essentially dissolving Sorrenian soveirgnty.

Etymology

The name "Sorrenia" is an adaptation of "Sorrento", the name of a small town in southern Italy, near Naples. After several hours of deliberation, the name was proposed by then President Miles of Sorrenia, and agreed upon by the other citizens of Sorrenia.

Kozlova

Sorrenia's predecessor state was a country named Democratic People's Republic of Kozlova which declared its seperation from the United Kingdom on the 6th June 2012. The country was established by Miles Pressland, Dominik Slowikowski and Lewis Wild. Kozlova was ruled by a communist egalitarian government, however the ruling government's ideology was not popular among the population. Tensions between the population and the government finally turned violent when two of the major public figures of Kozlova (Lewis Wild and Llewelyn Lawton) declared independence from Kozlova, dividing the country between separatist rebels (compromised of Yavarian, Aztokan and Validöraen soldiers and supporters), who primarily operated in the southern regions of Kozlova, and pro-government loyalists who primarily operated in the northern areas of the country and the capital. During the height of the civil war, the President of Kozlova Miles Pressland began peace negotiations with the rebels. These negotiations eventually led to the decision by both sides of the conflict that the state of Kozlova were to be dissolved, and a new country which would meet the demands of both sides would be formed. This led to the formation of the first Sorrenian Federation. There is high amount of nostalgia for the Kozlovan state within parts of Sorrenian society, this nostalgia has led to the declaration of a 'Kozlovan Remembrance Day' in 25th May 2014, which has been celebrated since.

Sorrenian-Gran Paisan conflict

The Gran Pais conflict was a civil conflict in 2014 which was initially between the Unified Socialist Party of Gran Pais (USP) (supported by the Sorrenian Federation and the Kingdom of Catan) and the Gran Paisan government, ending with the dissolution of Gran Pais and its annexation by Sorrenia. The conflict then became a territorial dispute between Sorrenia and Catan over who would control Gran Pais, ultimately ending in a stalemate and the continuation of the status quo.

• States have their own constitution and Local Assembly, and while they must follow Sorrenian law, they are allowed to make their own laws.
  
• Territories are governed by a Commissioner and have no local autonomy.
  
• The Capital of Levaria is considered a Federal District, but is governed as a Territory.

Culture

Sorrenians value their Newspapers and Radio Stations. Also, Many Sorrenians enjoy going to Games Workshop, to play multiple strategy games. Because of this, Tabletop Gaming has become an integral part of Sorrenian culture, with many Sorrenians going regularly, and even competing in tournaments on behalf of Sorrenia.

Sorrenia recognizes, and has relations with many Micronations. It also recognizes every member in the U.N. as well as the Vatican City. Since the transition to authoritarianism, diplomacy in Sorrenia has suffered.

Demography

The country of Sorrenia is very diverse with a census recently completed by the President. Most citizens are young adults between the ages of fifteen and thirty. Half of Sorrenians are Christian, with a large minority of Atheists, followed by Muslims and various other religions.
