The Fröhlichwaffe is the air force division of the armed forces of the Commonwealth of Essexia. Lord Jack is the General of the Armed Forces, and Lord Adam is General of the Fröhlichwaffe. There are currently 3 aircraft in active service: 2 fixed-wing and 1 helicopter (All of which are serving as the accompanying airwing aboard the CTS-01 REC Jaywick.

History

The Fröhlichwaffe was established on the 8th of July 2018, when Lord Jack was contracted by King Terry to construct an aerial vehicle for the protection of Essexia. The result was the R/C-01 'Pelican', which couldn't fly, and was a hand-built glider. The only example of an Essexian-built active service air vehicle is the R/C-04 H-1 Hummingbird, a utility helicopter developed on the 1st May 2019. The Fröhlichwaffe's name roughly translates to "Cheerful Weapons", or "Cheerful Air".

Squadrons were introduced on the 1st May 2019, when the H-1 Hummingbird was put into active service. It was given '1st Helicopter Squadron', leaving the F-1 and F-2 to be placed in '2nd Attack Squadron'.

X-1 Pelican

The R/C-01 'Pelican' was a hand-crafted glider built by Lord Jack for King Terry, however it has never left testing due to its inability to glide or fly.

F-1 Raptor

The R/C-02 'Raptor' is a radio defence vehicle ordered by Lord Jack for the fröhlichwaffe. It has the ability to vertically take off and land, and is carrier-capable. It is part of the 2nd Attack Squadron.

F-2 Bear

The R/C-03 'Bear' is a radio defence vehicle ordered by Lord Jack for the fröhlichwaffe. It has the ability to fly at relatively fast speeds horizontally, and is carrier capable. On the 27th of August 2018, the REQ Jaywick super carrier was fitted with a ski ramp to allow the R/C-03 'Bear' to successfully take off from the carrier for the first time. It is part of 2nd Attack Squadron.

H-1 Hummingbird

The R/C-04 'Hummingbird' is Essexia's first home-made aircraft to see active service. It is a 4-rotor helocopter currently based in the 1st Helocopter Squadron onboard the REC Jaywick. It is part of the 1st Helicopter Squadron.

Concept Aircraft

R/C-04 'Hummingbird'

This concept Multi-Role Jet aircraft featured a swing-wing, single after-burning engine, and slim cockpit design. It was based on aircraft such as the F-86 Sabre, and MiG-15. Although sharing the same name as the in-service helicopter, it is a coincedence that they share this feature.

R/C-05 'Wasp'

Another multi-role Jet aircraft, the 'Wasp' concept features external canards, dual after-burning engines, and dual vertical stabilisers. It was based on aircraft such as the F/A-18 Hornet, Su-27 Flanker, and F-15 Eagle.

Carrier capability

As many planes in the fröhlichwaffe as possible are designed or fitted to be carrier capable, and able to launch and recover from the Jaywick-class light carriers operated by the Royal Essexian Navy. Furthermore, all helicopters are made with carrier service in mind.
