It is a political norm in Sorrenia to adopt an alias, utilising a pseudonym and alternative portrait. Scargill's surname and portrait are those of Arthur Scargill, a Marxist and trade unionist who famously opposed Margaret Thatcher during the miners' strike of 1984–85.
War of the Sorrenian succession
Adam, like many others, first emerged in Sorrenia during the War of the Sorrenian Succession, during which he became a leading figure of the Socialist League, who sought to restore the Sorrenian Federation.
Adam headed the Bowburn Workers Council, the largest section of the League, and so became its de facto leader.
Despite this success, the Royal Army of Sorrenia was able to capture Levaria and force league troops back to their stronghold in Bowburn.
Retreat to Horden
League troops were ultimately defeated; Adam called for a general retreat to Horden in southern Dradelia, although this was ignored by the Sherburn Workers Council and Harold Wanton, who instead accepted an amnesty deal.
Upon arriving in Horden, League troops were beset upon by the Dradelian Revolutionary Army in the 'Horden Carnage', during which the Haswell Plough Workers Council betrayed Adam, and supported the Revolutionary Army.
League troops were almost completely defeated, however the invasion of Dradelia by the Royal Army effectively saved them.
With the pacification of Dradelia, and the Royal Army's focus on defeating Morgannwgyd troops in its south, League forces were able to reorganise, with Adam remaining the army's clear leader.
People's Republic of Horden
On the 10th of April, Adam declared the formation of the People's Republic of Horden, a communist micronation established to harbour the Socialist League and establish a working government.
Although the People's Republic has now existed for several months, it is not a self-declared independence movement, instead wishing to establish, and in turn reintegrate with, a restored Sorrenian Federation.
Upon the formation of the People's Republic, Adam was immediately declared president, and was given significant powers related to military organisation, leadership and general executive activities.
The Socialist League continues to operate out of Horden, although actual conflict is almost non-existent, and has been since the conclusion of the war.
Some Sorrenian government officials have accused The Republicans - a left-wing party in Sorrenia largely made up of ex-League members - of maintaining links with Adam.
After several days of forming the People's Republic, Adam announced an informal alliance with Dradelian dissidents seeking to form an independent Dradelian state. Despite their previous antipathy, League and Dradelian dissidents have maintained this alliance, and fought to create a land bridge between their two held territories.
Adam is a staunch republican, who refuses even to participate in the electoral method in Sorrenia. Instead, he remains supportive of an armed conflict with monarchist forces, although several members of The Republicans have indicated that this zeal may be wavering.
Adam is also Pitmatic, believing both that Sorrenia's culture should largely be modelled on its working class, socialist heritage, and that the old working class of Sorrenia (including miners, factory workers and dock workers) are the vanguard of the Sorrenian identity and independence movement.
