Revision as of 01:14, 10 June 2021

2021 (MMXXI) is the current year.[1] It is a common year starting on Friday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2021st year of the anno Domini (AD) and Common Era (CE) designations, the twenty-first year of the 3rd millennium and the 21st century, and the 2nd year of the 2020s decade. It succeeds 2020, and precedes 2022, and will mark MicroWiki's sixteenth anniversary on 27 May.

2021 has many scheduled events, as well as predictions, beginning amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

MicroWiki
Z Luna Skye (Zed) remained the most prolific editor[2], and was the first user to hit 40,000 edits on the site, which he achieved on 9 March. Wiki admins who continued serving were Adam I, Emperor of Adammia, and tech admins who continued were Luxor and Andrew Creed. Ives Blackwood was dismissed as a wiki admin in March as a result of a sockpuppeting scandal. Cameron I, King of Ikonia resigned from his position as tech admin in April, and Anthony Clark, Archie Birch and Harry Fitzpatrick were both promoted to wiki admins. Promoted Patrollers included Aidan McGrath, Christina Nowell, Daniel Hamilton, Dhrubajyoti Roy and Matthew Hubbard. The patroller position was later removed in 25 May 2021 by decision of the administrator team.

Politics, diplomacy and conflicts

The Grand Unified Micronational underwent several reforms with the implication of the 2021 charter.

Elections

Scheduled elections

Conflicts

Online Events

Summits

Hosting Diplomatic summits remained difficult due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however became less difficult as restrictions were eased in numerous macronations. MicroCon 2021 will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States,[13] It will be hosted by Westarctica and co-hosted by the Kingdom of Shiloh.[14] whilst PoliNation 2021 and a Brazilian summit are currently scheduled for later this year.

Furthermore, a number of state visits and smaller meet-ups took place, such as Leon Montan's meeting with Sophia Albina formerly of Nordale on 13 May,[15] and Desert Districtee First Secretary James Bornstein's meeting with Kodrolian Emperor Elder on 24 February 2021.[16]

A summit conducted by former-Premier-Citizen Sophia Albina and President Leon Montan of New Virginia and Ponderosa Hills respectively conducted on 13 May 2021.
A summit conducted by Desert Districtee First Secretary James Bornstein and Kodrolian Emperor Elder on 24 February 2021.

The article of the Grand Republic of Cycoldia covered in advertisements on April Fools 2021

Currently, MicroWiki has 28,001 articles, 142,435 pages and 27,810 registered users. In early January, MicroWiki migrated the website to a new server provider for better stability, and set up a Patreon.[17] The main page was redesigned for the first time in several years.[18] For April Fools'–an annual tradition on MicroWiki–large advertisements blocking the view of content popped up on most pages approximately every minute. Visual editor was disabled on 22 April 2021 when a glitch with visual editor was discovered. The glitch caused references to be removed while in visual editors.[19] It was later re-introduced with a update to MicroWiki.

Good Articles

Sports

The 2021 MOF Games, 2021 MFF World Cup and 2021 Micronations World Cup are scheduled to commence.[citation needed] The 2021 Adammic Chess Open occurred from 30 January to 6 February. Artemis Baca won the tournament beating Sir Alex Waters.

Micronationalists of the Month

Statistic-Dime's Micronationalists of the Month thus far have been:

December is omitted due to the Micronationalist of the Year being awarded.

Administration

Jonathan I of Austenasia remained the site owner for a seventh year

Jonathan I, Emperor of Austenasia remained the site owner of MicroWiki for his seventh year. Wiki admins who continued serving were Adam I, Emperor of Adammia, and tech admins who continued were Luxor and Andrew Creed. Ives Blackwood was dismissed as a wiki admin in March as a result of a sockpuppeting scandal. The role of Patroller was dissolved on 25 May; at the time there were 8 registered Patrollers.[21][22] Cameron I, King of Ikonia resigned from his position as tech admin in April, and Anthony Clark, Archie Birch and Harry Fitzpatrick were both promoted to wiki admins. Promoted Patrollers included Aidan McGrath, Christina Nowell, Daniel Hamilton, Dhrubajyoti Roy and Matthew Hubbard. Christina would later be stripped of her Patroller role on 19 May.[23]

On MicroWiki@Discord, Luxor and Andrew remained administrators, whilst Brooke Kennedy briefly served as Acting Head Moderator. Archie Birch, Daniel Hamilton, Christina Nowell and were promoted to moderators, however Hamilton and Nowell would both resign for varying reasons. Archie Birch returned as an Administrator on 31 March after initially resigning as administrator.

COVID-19 pandemic

The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic continued to cause huge disruption, however events started to restart following the easing of restrictions across macronations. There were over 25 confirmed cases of COVID-19 within 3 micronations, bringing 19 recoveries and 4 deaths.[24][25]

Culture, media, and society

Media

Podcasts remained popular throughout 2021, including the The Four Horsemen of Micronationalism,[26] "The Wodcast"[27] and The Anthony Show.[28] The Four Horsemen of Micronationalism featured Leon Montan, James Bornstein, Jonas Rhymer, and Brennan Sullivan and discussed different micronational subjects and events, whilst "The Wodcast"[29] and The Anthony Show both discussed similar topics. Music also remained popular in the micronational community, with newer and older artists releasing new content throughout the year. 1. The Great Des Plaines Valley War began when Edward Oaches threatened to invade territories in the Rainbowlands in early 2021. On 5 March Edward led a coalition of militants and former terrorist, Jack O’rav to the Rodentian Federal Center in Sunrise, Rodentia. The president of the Republic of Rodentia, Sinlo Chambel was evacuated to Prarik then later Two Pine. Edward Oaches, Jack O’rav and a group of mercenaries then proceeded to overthrew the Rodentian Government and military.
  2. The Gayverian-Ausverian War initially began on 14 March 2021 after a majority vote in the Gayverian voting hall supporting the declaration of war against Ausveria. The declaration of war was initially met with confusion and humorous remarks from members of the Ausverian government.
  3. Conflict broke out initially when Reunited Ocean States declared war on the Great Lawl Reich on 31 January 2021, followed by the Aleunnic Workers' Republic's declaration of war.[6][7] The Republic of Tueoedeth declared war on the Great Lawl Reich the same day, citing diplomatic disputes with the leadership of the Micronational Assembly at the time.[8] Faltree issued an official declaration of war against Great Lawl Reich on 2 February 2021.[9]
  4. On 28 April 2021, the apparent dissolution of the Dominion of Vancouver Island[10] led to the Vancouver Island Soviet Socialist Republic to begin trying to re-establish itself.[11] The dissolution of the Dominion of Vancouver Island led to the Commonwealth of British Dominions making a statement on 30 April 2021 calling the region "too unfit",[12] formalizing the then mostly unrecognized claim on the island by the Dominion of West Canada. This action led the Vancouver Island Soviet Socialist Republic and the Greater Cascadian Republic to attempt to intervene claiming themselves as the correct claimants and owner of Vancouver Island.
