The Micronational Olympic Federation (MOF) is an intermicronational organisation dedicated to creating, hosting, and scheduling micronational sporting and Esporting events, and the Micronational Olympics. The MOF currently hosts the Micronational Olympic Games every two years with the 2020 Micronatonal Olympic eGames annually.

Posaf founded the Micronational Olympic Federation on 7 January 2018 after noticing the inactivity of the Micronational Olympic Committee founded by Molossia back in 2000. The goal of the MOF (since the founding) was to have peace, and unity throughout the micronational community with competitive games to celebrate with, along with general celebration for the Micronational community through games.

As of 10 April 2024, the MOF has 37 active members.

Founding to Millania 2019

A few days after the Posaf declared independence, the Posaf government founded the Micronational Olympic Federation after noting that the Micronational Olympic Committee was inactive. The Posafian Government appointed Nicholas Randouler, the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the role of president. The goal of the newly created organization was to unite all micronations, and allow them all to celebrate under a single event.[1] The organization largely took place on the Discord sector of micronations (before the Discord shift) and gained member states such as Andany, Bernada, and Millania. Early on, the organization was met with criticism from Pablo Macias, after he claimed there were already too many micronational sports organizations active. As a result, he founded the now-defunct Micronational Olympic Group.

Following the announcement of the Micronational Olympic Group and the 2018 Micronational Games, the MOF announced plans soon after for the earlier 2018 MOF Games that would take place online. The games were not hosted by any specific nation, but were quickly organized by Nicholas Randouler, and took place from February 15 to February 26. Events during the games were a six-by-six checkers, Tic-tac-toe, and an Agar.io party. Accompanying the events were national honours such as Best Coat of Arms, Best Flag, and Best Motto. The event was proven to be a success after gaining intermicronational recognition,[2] and an increase in members brought the MOF to a higher member count than the MOG had.

Later on, the MOF grew to more notable members such as Ladonia, and the Gymnasium State. After it was founded, most of Andany was fabricated, with the MOG, the 2020 Micronational Olympic Games rights were transferred to the MOF to be hosted by Iustus in Kingston, Canada. Months passed, the MOF grew with more members and later completed its first year of establishment, going into Millania 2019. Millania 2019 started off good, with a medal sweep for the host nation and an elaborate opening ceremony. When the games neared the end the host nation was having internet troubles and the games went on for longer than expected, with a disputed national pride category winnings. Similarly, the rules for some games did not go well causing Aariania to leave the MOF over them.[3] It was seen that Millania 2019 dented the progress of the MOF.

When Millania 2019 came to an end, it was seen the MOF reputation was severely hurt due to the lack of planning and tests done to ensure the efficiency of the games. Due to this, the Commissioner Council decided it was needed to push for more sanctioned events and tournaments. The first of these was the 2019 MOF Checkers Tournament. These games were viewed as a big success[4] to many members and gained an influx of new members. The tournament did start a new trend for checkers in the MOF, as the MOF is now making the contest annual.

Activity overall went up for some time in the MOF server, although it did die down back to normal. The third annual 2020 Micronational eSport Games started on 14 February, hosted by the Gymnasium State. The 2020 Micronational Olympic Games were set to take place in the summer of 2020 hosted by Iustus. However, the games were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019 MOF Intergames Aenderia Cancellation

For more information, see 2019 MOF Intergames Aenderia

Aenderia, a micronation formed in 2018, was the winning bidding candidate to host the 2019 MOF Intergames, but the games were later canceled due to political instability in Aenderia leading to the secession of the Kingdom of Auvenum.

Calvin White, the founder of Aenderia and the person responsible for seceding Auvenum from Aenderia, was able to cancel the games in an attempt to hurt the current Aenderian government, who had deposed White due to election fraud claims, yet was later acquitted.

Present

The MOF experienced a large setback following the death of founder and president Nicholas Randouler. There was also another setback, with the delay several times of the 2021 MOF Games and the subsequent removal of Nicolás Millán from the presidency due to his "ghosting" the organization in the midst of organizing the games. He was briefly replaced by Ashley Jaax who subsequently resigned after a few days and was replaced by her handpicked successor - Tomáš Falešník.

The MOF experienced the most mainstream Micronational exposure up to this point, when Executive Vice President Matthew Salzer of Ladonia hosted the first annual Nemean Games (athletic event) at MicroCon 2022.

Structure

President

The President of the Micronational Olympic Federation's duty is to go over all of the operations within the organization, and to finalize any proposals or bylaws within the Commissioner Council. Normally the President is the lead figure in the organization, and appoints members of the Commissioner Council and Vice-Presidents to be confirmed by the member states. One of the President's duties is to oversee all operations conducted for the games. The President would normally help host nations plan events and organize the games, and for the eGames, the president would help advertise and plan the games. The current President of the MOF is Tomáš Falešník, from Gymnasium State, since 22 August 2021.

10 km run

10 km run has been part of only one eGames competition this far, that being 2021. It was later considered as one of the events in the 2024 competition, but was eventually excluded due to being largely different compared to other events (which all consisted of board games), and as from that year the more fitting Remote Games were established as well.

Agar.io

Agar.io, initially as Agar.io Party, has been part of the eGames since the first edition in 2018. Initially, the scoring was based on how long a cylete could survive in a private lobby, however later on it went over to a ranking system, where one would just submit the largest mass in a public FFA lobby as their submission. The 2024 MOF eGames simplified it even further, removing the previously present two round format and making it a one round event.

Checkers

Checkers is one of the events that has appeared in every MOF eGames competition since the first one in 2018. Initially, the game was played in an 6×6 grid variant, which was the case up until the 2023 competition. However, since the 6×6 grid variant was doable only in a software such as Google Slides, and thus took time to set up, and since many people did not know that it was a 6×6 grid variant and played the normal one instead, in the 2024 games the normal 8×8 was chosen as the official variant to be played.

Although there were plans to run both a teamed and a singles variation, the singles variation was eventually cancelled, leaving only the teamed variation to take place. It was considered as an event in the 2024 competition, but was eventually excluded due to it being not accessible for people who don't have the game.

National titles

National titles was an event that appeared in the MOF Games from the 2018 till the 2020 events. Unlike the other events, where participants would compete in a field, the national titles event was an event where the different national attributes of each participating country, such as the anthems, coats of arms, flags and mottos were rated and ranked under a specific criteria. For the 2018 competition, the criteria for flag was its design, image quality, symmetry, noticeable details and colours; for the motto how well it represents the micronation and its people; and for the coat of arms on the general appeal. Although generally treated as an event like others (just with each category having the chance to give a medal), the 2020 competition did not take the medals of national titles into account, due to Gymnasium State being excluded from it. It was considered as an event in the 2024 competition, but was eventually excluded due to it being opinion not skill based.
